Brazilian Football Stories
Brazil has given football more myth than any other country, and more unfinished stories. Five World Cups and a century of exported talent have produced a national record that is easy to look up and almost impossible to explain, because the numbers never mention what the players were carrying while they set them.
These are our long-form pieces on two of the men who carried that weight: Ronaldo Nazário, whose knee gave way twice before he scored both goals in a World Cup final, and Adriano Leite Ribeiro, who was the most feared striker in Italy at twenty-two and effectively gone by twenty-five. One story is about what a body can survive. The other is about what happens when the body is fine and everything else is not.
Both pieces are researched and written in full rather than summarised, with a facts panel, a timeline of the key moments, and linked sources at the foot of every page so you can check the record yourself.
