Player Portraits
A career is too big to write about. A moment is not. Every portrait here starts with one thing that actually happened: a run, a transfer, a funeral, a photograph taken in a corridor and works outwards until the person is visible.
Some of these players won everything and some of them are remembered for one afternoon. What they have in common is that the football record on its own does not explain them. Each piece lists its sources, and quotes are attributed to where they were first published.
Managers are covered elsewhere on the site; this hub is players only. Every portrait carries a facts panel with caps, clubs and honours, a timeline of the career around the moment in question, and linked references so the record is checkable rather than asserted.
